Solid performance for Matt vs. Sixers
The Red Rocket was given props from newsies and bloggers alike for his pair of three-pointers to start a run that led to an 18-point lead over the visiting Sixers. The big Bonner news of the night though, is that Roger Mason Jr. has passed him for three-point efficiency. I’m sure Matt will be okay.
By Mike Monroe at mysanantonio.com:
Mason’s perfection on 3-pointers Saturday slid him past teammate Matt Bonner into second place in the NBA in 3-point accuracy, despite Bonner’s 3-for-5 night from beyond the arc. Mason has made 47.5 percent of his 160 3-pointers; Bonner 46.8 percent of his 94.
And he said in the same article regarding the abundence of three-pointers last night:
“Everybody was making them,” Bonner said, “and it felt like we couldn’t miss a shot that whole quarter. It’s easy to get high on our shooting and think we’re just going to keep making them, but the law of percentages says we’re not. That’s when defense comes in.”
Jeff McDonald gave Bonner a shout-out saying that Michael Finley has been shooting “Bonner-esque.”
It wasn’t a great shooting night for Michael Finley last night, but that’s actually out of the norm for him of late. Prior to last night’s 2-of-7 performance, Finley had been averaging 12.8 points and shooting 58.1 percent in his previous five games. Over that span, he shot a Matt Bonner-esque 62.5 percent from 3-point range. And, yes, Gregg Popovich has noticed …
Speaking of Bonner, another underrated game for him at Memphis. He had 16 points, and made 7 of his 9 field goals. He continues to prove himself worthy of the minutes formerly belonging to Robert Horry that Popovich keeps giving him.
And for some reason, and while I love fantasy basketball, RotoExperts are advising fantasy team owners to drop Bonner along with Jason Kapono (injured) and Ricky Davis (suspended). They are clearly whack. And not just the regular whack, the wiggity kind:
The Jason Kapono (SG/SF, TOR) experiment is apparently over, as Anthony Parker (SG/SF, TOR) has pushed Kapono back to the bench. The dreaded time-share commences… There’s no use in holding on to Matt Bonner (PF/C) and waiting hopelessly for him to become the player we hope him to be instead of what he is… The 20% of Yahoo! leagues where Ricky Davis (SG/SF, LAC) is still owned must count suspensions as a stat category.
