NBA Roundtable breaks down Bonner’s shooting per centages

January 26th, 2009

I’m on record as calling NBA Roundtable one of the best NBA blogs out there. The author’s analysis and choice of topics are really interesting and in all honestly, the stuff he chooses to cover you can’t find anywhere else.

On December 8th he ran a post about Bonner’s scorching hot per centages from behind the arc and when making jump shots. Here’s what Doug, the blog’s author wrote:

Matt Bonner’s shooting has been incredible for the Spurs, check out these numbers

* Bonner takes 5.4 field goals a game
* Bonner’s field goal percentage is 53.1%
* 2.4 of those 5.4 attempts coming from behind the arc. That means 44% of shots come from behind the arc.
* Matt Bonner’s three point field goal percentage is 47.7%
* His adjusted field goal percentage stands at an incredible 63.8%. That’s amazing.
* Matt Bonner takes 21% of his shots inside the paint making 61.9% of them. Bonner actually shoots better on his jumpshots making 64.3% of them.
* Bonner has only taken five free throws all season so he doesn’t get much of a bump at the FT line. His true shooting percentage is 64.4%.
* Bonner’s true shooting percentage ranks 4th in the NBA behind Przybilla, Nene, Posey and ahead of Amare Stoudemire. Very impressive.
* Bonner is scoring 7.2ppg on those 5.4 shot attempts

Matt Bonner’s shooting efficiency is incredible and of great value to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs are using Matt Bonner carefully, playing him only at power forward and mostly with Tim Duncan by his side and more recently in the starting unit. This added protection should help him out defensively, as well as help to create more shooting opportunities for himself.
