Nadia’s mom blogs about upcoming grandchild
As loyal visitors to The Red Rocket.net know, Matt and Nadia are expecting their first child in July 2009. Nadia’s mother, Pamela Kullo-Egelton, maintains a blog for Durham Region on Emergency Planning. It’s quite robust on the subject and my wife and I, being the parents of young children, particularly enjoyed her post on the Baby Sitter’s Guide.
Recently she traveled to Portland, Oregon and back again via Greyhound, stopping in San Antonio to see her daughter and son-in-law. It’s a good read and has some interesting perspective on how safe she felt during the journey.
In her most recent post, she does what any grandmother-to-be worth their weight in salt should be doing and spent a post bragging about becoming a grandmother. Interesting note, baby Bonner won’t be able to visit the True North Strong and Free until at least 2010. Apparently babies need a bevy of immunizations before they can visit a foreign country and the schedule for them takes six months.
Pamela says it best:
Because of all of the shots a baby needs to provide itself with an immune system worthy of visiting another country, ours, the baby will not be travel proofed until it is at least 6 months old. This also puts my first grandchild into the NBA playing season again, so if I am to see my grandchild, I will be traveling south to Texas. What a bummer. Long distance visits I will have to be happy with. Matt’s parents are in the same boat, living also north but at least in the same country, hailing from Concord, New Hampshire.
I don’t know about Pamela, but trips to Texas during the coldest months of the Canadian winter doesn’t sound so bad to us!
She rehashes what Dave Bonner, Matt’s dad, said at the wedding about the potential position of the baby on a basketball court:
According to Dave Bonner the next generation of Bonner’s will also be basketball players if he has any say. Because of my daughter’s small stature (ed’s note, Nadia is reported to be 5′4″), he has stated they may have to settle for guard positions on the team since a great height is needed for a forward player.
Congratulations, Pamela, on becoming a grandmother! We’re very happy and excited for you.
Thanks for your kind words. Pam
